Wilberforce University Optimist Club Focuses on Youth

The WU Optimist club provided several services and events for youth in the surrounding communities during the fall 2013 semester. Realizing education is the cornerstone of youth development, members assisted Xenia Board of Education candidate Cheryl Marcus in her successful run for board membership. Members also assisted the Xenia YMCA with Halloween activities for area youth. Customized Halloween cards were given to youth at Dayton Children’s Hospital.

Since many area children are members of families who struggle to provide food and shelter for their kids, the WU Optimist Club volunteered to bag groceries targeted for these families at St. Vincent de Paul in Dayton. The club also adopted (via Greene County United Way) a single parent family with kids for Christmas. Toys and other items will be provided. During spring 2014, members plan to mentor youth in the Greene County Juvenile Court System.

If you have a passion to serve community youth, consider working with the WU Optimist Club. Contact any member for information.
